Hi, my name is Josh Lim. I love building communities, storytelling (written and spoken) is in my blood, and I'm a techie from the non-tech world.
I am a political scientist by training, but my true passion is in giving voice to brands and people, which led me to working for two tech startups in community-facing roles: Viddsee, a Singapore-based short film website, and Happy Team Check, a Polish human resources startup. After stints at companies in the Philippines, I'm currently the Community Campaign Manager at DeviantArt.
My vocation though is in content. I have been a Wikipedia editor since 2005, and in 2010, I founded Wikimedia Philippines, where I currently sit as its President. I am also a three-time Top Writer on Quora, and I was also a columnist for the #YoungPolitics column of Women's Voices Magazine. More than writing, I've also spoken at numerous conferences over the years on community-building in tech, and I've been covered by a number of newspapers and other news sources.
I have lived in the Philippines, the United States, Mainland China, Poland and Singapore, and I can find a firm footing wherever I go. But online, this will be my (I hope!) permanent home. Welcome!
WHAT CAN I DO
Community-building
I have a versatile skill set for building, growing and sustaining communities of users, fans and practitioners. I keep up with social media trends and can build effective advertising campaigns, but I can also rally people offline around a product to get them truly engaged.
Storytelling
I can effectively conceptualize and convey impactful stories to people, whether it be evangelizing the next big technical development or promoting a community's best work.
Writing
I have a very versatile writing skill set, having written everything from short advertising by-lines to well-researched Wikipedia articles and everything in between. I am also able to translate texts between English, Filipino and Spanish.
